Old Pompano Real Estate For Sale
OLD POMPANO – Real Estate Listings – Single Family Homes, Condos, Townhouses & more!
The neighborhood of Old Pompano and its surrounding real estate came into existence because of Henry Flagler’s railroad. In 1896 Henry Flagler decided to bring the Florida East Coast Railway south from West Palm Beach to Miami. In doing so, land was cleared that had otherwise been a virtual wilderness. The neighborhood of Old Pompano and its surrounding real estate thus came into existence on July 3, 1908 as a stop for the Florida East Coast Railway. Thereafter, the settlement of Old Pompano and the surrounding real estate started to become a farming community where it eventually became well known for its Farmer’s Green Market held each Saturday during the farming season from the Fall to Spring. By 1947 the City of Pompano merged with the City of Pompano Beach due to its population growth following WWII – tourists from the North looking for beautiful but quieter beaches than those at Fort Lauderdale and new sunny places to relocate to. Also, it became well known when Chris-Craft decided to manufacture luxury boats in the City of Pompano Beach.
Moving more up to date, there are many fine restaurants with award winning Chefs as well as some that participated in the rum-running and gambling days but still serve up great food. From an accommodation standpoint, Old Pompano is known for Cottages by the Ocean which offers short term rentals of restored 1940s Key West-style studio cottages; the high-rise Residence Inn by Marriott offers a spa and family events; the family-run Beachcomber Resort and Villas; and the nostalgic Croton Arms Resort Apartments.
