Pompano Beach Approves New Water Taxi Service!

The City of Pompano Beach is making waves with its newly approved water taxi service! Slated for an official full-time launch on December 16, 2024, this exciting transportation option will connect residents and visitors to popular coastal destinations from Lighthouse Point to Hollywood, offering a scenic and convenient way to explore the Most Expensive Homes in South Florida as well as South Florida’s waterways.

A Collaborative Effort

In partnership with Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale, this initiative was unanimously approved by the City Commission. With funding secured through a $1.2 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and an additional $876,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act, the project is set to make a significant splash without burdening taxpayers.

Mayor Rex Hardin shared his enthusiasm:

“We’re thrilled to partner with Water Taxi to bring Pompano Beach residents this exciting and convenient transportation option. Thanks to the hard work of City staff, the majority of the costs are covered by grants, making this a win-win for everyone!”

Convenient, Scenic, and Sustainable Transportation

The water taxi service is designed for maximum accessibility and convenience, with proposed operating hours from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 128 daily stops, and operations scheduled 362 days a year. A soft launch is expected in early December, with water taxis making a festive debut during the Holiday Boat Parade.

Ticket prices are designed to be affordable, ranging from $15 to $30 for adults, with special rates for residents:

  • Multi-day passes: $80
  • Annual passes: $250
